Making changes to a healthier and more active lifestyle can be a vital part of preventing hemorrhoids. Your diet should include more fiber, such as vegetables, fruits and grains. Exercise is also recommended. This article can help you develop a healthy lifestyle that will work for you and will cut down on hemorrhoids.

If you have hemorrhoids, there are many things that you can do to help minimize the uncomfortable feeling you are dealing with. One of the most effective ways is to make sure your body is hydrated. You can simply do this by consuming at least eight glasses of water a day. Aim for as much water as you can to keep your body flushed and moist.

Simple over-the-counter medications are great for hemorrhoids, so do not neglect to use them. Those hemorrhoid-specific creams should be applied directly to the swollen vein. This will help to reduce the swelling significantly. It’s best if you apply this type of medicine at night instead of during the day where it might not be as effective for a host of reasons.

Smoking is one of the worst things that you can do if you have hemorrhoids because it will hurt the quality of your immune system. This will directly impact your hemorrhoids, causing more irritation and redness on your skin. Reduce or quit smoking entirely to improve your condition and well-being.

Try to avoid taking long baths or showers if you have hemorrhoids. When water is in contact with your skin for a long time, it will become more irritated, which can worsen your condition. Stick to five or ten minute baths if you want to feel comfortable during the day.

Witch hazel is an amazing relief for those who suffer from hemorrhoids. Make sure you find and purchase quality witch hazel. Apply it with gentle care to the affected areas using a high quality disposable cloth or cotton cloth. The alcohol content of the witch hazel should not be high as you may not like the sting if it is.

Eat fiber! One of the best solutions to treating hemorrhoids is by adding more fiber to your diet! Fiber will keep your stool soft and decrease bulk which will help reduce straining. Studies have shown that the increase of fiber in a diet will improve the discomfort of itching and pain associated with hemorrhoids.

If you are presently suffering from either internal or external hemorrhoids, you should avoid wiping with ordinary dry toilet paper. Instead, use a moistened bathroom towelette that contains aloe vera, or use a medicated wipe. Dry toilet paper can leave residue; it can also aggravate the sensitive, inflamed tissues of the hemorrhoid.

To help clear up your hemorrhoids, the first step is to relieve the symptoms. Constipation is a common cause of hemorrhoids, so make sure that your diet is healthy and rich in fiber. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Keep the anal area clean to help reduce the painful swelling and itching.

As it was clearly seen in the beginning of the article, a healthy lifestyle is of the utmost importance when trying to avoid hemorrhoids. A healthy diet and an active lifestyle are both important parts of eliminating hemorrhoids. This article can help you discover other changes that you can make to prevent hemorrhoids.

Quitting Smoking with a New Lifestyle

Quitting Smoking with a New Lifestyle

One of the best and proven ways to quitting smoking is by making changes to a lifestyle that has been hindered by that dangerous and addictive habit. You must substitute your old lifestyle with a new one. Focusing on your new lifestyle allows you to live and visualize the end result – smoke-free, healthy, and vibrant – and not just talk about it.

A very successful way of starting a new lifestyle without smoking is to begin a fitness program.

A fitness programs offers a lot of help for the person quitting smoking. Exercise helps to reduce stress which is a major trigger for smoking with many people.

It will also help to sustain a healthy bodyweight and this can be a fear for people who are prone to put on weight once they stop smoking as nicotine helps to keep weight down.

Statistics have shown that those people who are involved in some form of exercise regimen have a greater chance of triumph when quitting smoking.

The endorphins that are released with exercise are a superior substitute than those that people get from nicotine. One of the main reasons why quitting smoking is so hard for people is because of the endorphins that are released in the brain while smoking. Endorphins are also known as the ‘feel good’ chemical.

The release of endorphins with exercise can bring about a sense of well-being for several hours following your workout.

As your health will begin to progress within 20 minutes from your last cigarette and continue to do so as your body overturns the damage that smoking has done, one of the first things you will notice will be the capacity to breathe more freely.

Being able to breathe more freely will also boost your energy levels and this will also be augmented by the improvements in the ability for the blood to carry oxygen to all parts of the body.

Increased energy makes working out easier and the upward cycle of fitness can bring some exceptional improvements over a relatively short term.

Changing lifestyles to include exercise usually pushes people to make other improvements to their life with superior nutrition and leading a more stable life. The extra money that you will save from not having to buy cigarettes will allow for more options to get the most out of life and experience things that were previously unattainable when smoking was a part of it.

Quitting smoking is not suppose to be life ending; only life changing for the better.

Congestive Heart Failure and the Heart Healthy Diet

Source: Flickr

Congestive Heart Failure, or CHF, is a medical condition concerning the heart. When diagnosed with CHF, a patient has a weakened heart that cannot properly pump blood to the necessary parts of the body. This condition requires extensive treatment and lifestyle changes in order to live as healthy and as normal a life as possible. Such lifestyle changes include a medicine regimen, an exercise program, and a heart healthy diet. While all of these factors are important, following a strict diet is a key element to controlling Congestive Heart Failure, and ensuring the best quality of life that can happen while living with this condition. A heart healthy diet includes low sodium intake, low fat and calorie intake, and reduced fluid intake.

When a patient is first diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure, his or her doctor will begin a treatment plan matched specifically to that patient. Part of this treatment plan is usually a heart healthy diet. Part of what makes Congestive Heart Failure so uncomfortable for the patient diagnosed with the condition is the fact that as a result of how the heart fails to work efficiently, the lungs and the body in general begin to retain large amounts of fluid. Though there is an abundance of fluid in the body, the fluid that builds up in the lungs of the heart failure patient makes it exceedingly difficult to breathe, which is already a difficult venture for the patient.

Where the heart healthy diet comes in is that ridding the body and lungs of excess liquid is important to be able to breathe comfortably. An abundance of sodium in a person’s diet causes excessive amounts of liquid to be retained. This is something a heart patient does not need, considering the large amounts of liquid that already makes itself a problem. Along with medication to help release retained liquid, a diet of low sodium limitations is often given to the patient. The standard amount of sodium allotted in a diet like this is 2g or 2000mg. If the heart patient is a unusually bad case, a sodium limit as low as 1g or 1000mg may be given. When a heart failure patient exceeds this level of sodium in his or her diet, he or she runs the risk of retaining relatively large amounts of liquid that the body, in its less-than-efficient state, cannot effectively get rid of.

Another aspect of the heart healthy diet is for the heart patient to eat many low-calorie, low-fat foods. Sometimes Congestive Heart Failure is caused, in part, by obesity in the patient. Two things are accomplished by eating these low-calorie, low-fat foods. One, eating low-calorie, low-fat foods helps to keep the heart arteries clear of clots. Heart patients already have a weakened heart and, therefore, should not weaken it further by introducing clots to the passageways of the heart. The other thing that is accomplished by this part of the diet is that weight is a contributing factor to being healthy or unhealthy. Obesity, in some cases, can cause the Congestive Heart Failure condition. Not gaining weight if you are already thin, and losing weight if you are obese is important to being healthy with CHF. A low-fat, low-calorie diet can help with keeping or getting to a healthy weight.

The last part of a heart healthy diet for CHF patients is a diet with reduced fluid intake. In much the same way that sodium increasing fluid retention is negative for the heart failure patient, drinking lots of fluids is sometimes negative as well. If a heart patient is drinking many liquids, it just makes it harder for the body to get rid of the fluids that are building up naturally. Keeping a diet low in fluids helps keep fluids in the body at a minimum as well.

There are many positive aspects to the heart healthy diet. Low sodium limitations, low-fat and low-calorie foods, and reduced liquid intake can be helpful in keeping a heart healthy lifestyle. Congestive Heart Failure patients are recommended to change their current eating habits to a heart healthy diet in order to become as healthy as possible and to live as full life as is possible with this condition.

Be Proactive With Acne Treatment

At some point in life, most people deal with acne.
It is one of life’s most annoying realities that doesn’t seem to be a respector of persons. As a dermatologist, I am constantly meeting with teenagers, young adults and adults that are tired of struggling with acne and that are desperate for acne treatment that works.

Effective and healthy acne treatment is my life’s work and my passion. I love researching about the causes of acne and about all of the possible methods for helping the skin clear from acne. If you’ve ever been to a store looking for an acne treatment, then you know first hand how many options there are and how easy it would be to make the wrong choices.

Most teens and adults I know go looking for the easiest and cheapest form of acne treatment that they can find. Yes, acne bothers them, but not enough to seek professional treatment. I am convinced that one of the reasons that so many people are unhappy with their chosen method of acne treatment is that they haven’t taken the time to make changes to their lifestyle.

I am a firm believer that the most effective acne treatment is one that requires a total change of lifestyle. When any client struggling with acne enters my office, my first assignemnt to them is to change some of their lifestyle habits for a month and then return to see me. I will not prescribe any topical or oral acne treatment until people have other daily habits under control. For example, I look carefully at the typical diet of my patients and I look for ways to help them cut out junk food. I ask them to drink more water and less beverages that are filled with sugar, and I encourage them to stay away from sugary and salty foods for the month. I monitor their fitness habits and suggest that they get moving.

This might seem like a strange method of acne treatment, but you would be shocked to learn that every single client of mine returns to my office after a month of changing their lifestyle in awe of what a difference changing habits has made for them. Yes, I do offer topical and or oral acne treatments to supplement their other methods, but the point is that no topical or oral acne treatment will be as effective without partnering it with a healthy lifestyle.

What Is Blood Pressure?
Blood pressure is the pressure of blood in contact with the walls of the arteries.
It is registered as two numbers, as the heart beats (the systolic pressure) over as the heart relaxes between beats (the diastolic pressure). This process of assigning number is written one above or before the other, with the systolic number on top and the diastolic number on the bottom. Here is an example, 120/80 millimeters of mercury (mmHg)) is stated orally as 120 over 80. Regular blood pressure is less than 120 mmHg systolic and less than 80 mmHg diastolic.

High Blood Pressure(HBP)

HBP is particularly life-threatening because it sometimes has no warning signs or symptoms. Irrespective of race, age, or gender, anybody can get high blood pressure. It is approximated that one in every four adults has high blood pressure. If high blood pressure springs up, it normally goes a lifetime. You can stop and manage high blood pressure by choosing action.

Nearly all physicians will determine a person with high blood pressure with two or more readings that are taken on different times. An unchanging blood pressure reading of 140/90 mmHg or higher is regarded as high blood pressure, the other term is hypertension.

A few people have high blood pressure just when they travel to the physician’s office, it is called white-coat hypertension. If your physician sees this, you may be expected to record your blood pressure at home or expected to put on a device known as an ambulatory blood pressure monitor. This device is normally worn for 1 day and can take blood pressure every 30 minutes.

Prevention
You can take steps to stop high blood pressure by embracing a healthy way of life. These steps include keeping a healthy weight; staying physically energetic; conforming to a healthy diet plan. That stresses fruits, vegetables, and lowfat dairy foods; selecting and cooking foods with less salt and sodium. And if you drink alcoholic beverages, drinking in moderation.

Pampering Your Skin

Pampering Your Skin

The quest to stay young looking has become a virtual passion especially as baby boomers move through middle age. You can see it in commercials, particularly for women, who maintain that the effects of age can be defeated so the skin can remain smooth, soft and wrinkle free. While it’s easy to discount this quest for great looking skin as vanity, there is truth to the idea that taking good care of our skin is a worthwhile ambition for baby boomers as they approach their retirement years.

Often we don’t think a lot about our skin. It seems so self sufficient and self healing that we take for granted that it will just get better when it suffers mild abrasions or cuts or other ailments. Few of us take the time to appreciate the fact that the skin is one of vital organs (the largest one) and that we should take care of it with as much concern as we do for our heart and lungs.

Maintaining robust health is a goal for baby boomers who have always been driven to fight the effects of aging and stay youthful. So just as we all have worked together to become aware of the risks for heart disease, cancer and other endemic problems as we age, we should also become well informed on lifestyle choices that can affect the ability of our skin to stay healthy and able to take good care of us well into our golden years.

There is no other body organ that is so exposed to damage and so rugged in resisting the wear and tear of the world than the skin. But the elements and even things we do can cause wear and tear on the skin and cause it to become dry, wrinkled and eventually more susceptible to disease. Some of the things we can do from a lifestyle point of view to give our skin a head start on staying healthy throughout our lives are…

· Protect the skin from the extremes of temperature such as harsh wind and cold. These elements will dry the sin and lead to preliminary aging if we don’t take care earlier in life.

· Similarly being sensible about exposing our skins to the sun just makes sense. The quest for a good tan, while attractive in the short term, is not good skin care long term.

· It doesn’t pay to wash the skin in harsh soaps or to scrub it too harshly. While it is good to maintain a clean lifestyle and clean the skin regularly, we have to remember that harsh soaps and being too aggressive with the skin can wear it down and remove natural lubrication and cleansing agents that the skin generates to take care of itself.

· Some habits such as smoking which we already identified for other health risks, are also hard on the skin. All you have to do is to look at the face of a lifelong smoker to see the deep lines and the deterioration of the skin caused by that habit to make you want to throw your smokes out the window.

Good skin care like tooth care and care of other part so your body require regular attention, good life style habits and common sense. Just as over attention to brushing the teeth can be as harmful as good, excessive washing and obsession about the skin is just as damaging as neglecting it.

There are proactive things we can do from a lifestyle point of view to give the skin the care it needs to do it’s job of keeping us healthy. Routine use of coconut oil each night helps the skin remain smooth and healthy and is a pleasant nightly ritual for you. Good diet with an emphasis on Vitamin A and including generous portions of fruit, vegetables and carrot juice can keep your skin healthy and robust well into those sunset years. And as baby boomers move into that stage of their lives, they will benefit from a lifestyle of good skin care that started early and continued throughout life.
